Getting started

Go to the Start button, then Programs and click on LOW 4.1 to get it started.
An LOW icon has been installed on your desktop, should you wish to start it that way.
For those users who have used earlier versions of LOW, it’s good to know that your LOW data files can be read by LOW 4.1. Your data, which is stored in an older format, will be saved in the latest format. Any predictions your data file contains will be recalculated automatically (and please don’t interrupt this process).

LOW will check whether your computer has the ASCOM Platform 5.0 telescope drivers installed or not.
If not, you’ll be asked whether or not you want to install them.
These drivers allow LOW to send GoTo commands to most telescopes.
Hence you now have the possibility to select an object that’s about to be occulted (most likely a star) from the LOW predictions list and then let LOW send your telescope to that object.
All you need to do now is observe the occultation!

There are a number of reports that can be generated using the export function.
The reports that contain figures require you to have Word installed.
In order for LOW to create email messages with your observations in the IOTA2008 format attached to them, your computer must have either Outlook or Outlook Express.
There’s no problem should you have a different email program.
You can still export your observations in the IOTA2008 format (a flat text file that you should NEVER edit yourself) and attach the file manually to an email that you create.
You will find the email address of the person you have to send them to under Settings -> Observer -> Report to.
